This publication is an educational resource for dermatologists, general practitioners and nurse practitioners who are managing patients with acne. The burden of acne is high, not only is physical scarring common but the adverse psychosocial effects can severely affect patient quality of life. Oral isotretinoin is the most effective anti-acne treatment and it is strongly recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology for acne that is severe, causing scarring or psychosocial burden or failing standard therapy. This review is sponsored by an educational grant from Douglas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
